NOM-035: a practical checklist
NOM-035-STPS-2018 requires you to identify, analyze, and prevent psychosocial risk factors at work. Here is what to do, in order.
Who does it apply to?
Every workplace in Mexico. The obligation scales with size: up to 15 people (prevention measures and a policy), 16 to 50 (plus psychosocial risk identification), and over 50 (plus an organizational-environment assessment).
The steps
1. Psychosocial risk policy
Document and share a policy to prevent psychosocial risks, workplace violence, and to foster a favorable environment. It is the starting point and applies to every workplace.
2. Identification and analysis
Apply the reference-guide II and III questionnaires to staff (mandatory from 16 people). Record responses and compute the risk level per area.
3. Prevention measures and actions
Based on the result, define control actions: from workload and schedule adjustments to clinical care when risk is high.
4. Care for traumatic events
Refer anyone who experienced a severe work-related traumatic event to clinical evaluation.
5. Records and evidence
Keep results, measures taken, and follow-up. STPS asks for them in an inspection; without documentary evidence, there is no compliance.
NOM-035 is not a one-time task: it is a cycle. Staffly builds it into the data model so evidence is generated while you operate, not when the inspection arrives.
